How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Swinton?
Our three fixed prices are £449 up to 6 circuits, £549 up to 10 and £695 for 11 or more. Swinton flats and bungalows, even with storage heater circuits, usually fit the £449 package, and most semis are £549. Earthing, tails and bonding are added only when your three photos show a need, and priced before you book.
How a price is built →Off-peak flats and their second board
Across Swinton and Pendlebury there are low-rise blocks, maisonettes and bungalows that were built all-electric, heated by storage heaters on an Economy 7 or similar two-rate meter. Those homes usually have two boards: a main one for lights and sockets, and a separate off-peak unit for the heaters and the immersion, switched through the meter. Both are often original, or close to it. Some still have the old timeswitch or a separate contactor on the wall beside them.
A modern consumer unit can take the off-peak circuits alongside the rest, each on its own RCBO, where the supply arrangement allows it, and your photos of the meter and both boards tell us that in advance. Where the two-rate supply has to stay separate, we price replacing each board rather than leaving one old unit behind. Either way the heaters keep charging overnight as before, and your off-peak arrangement stays exactly as your supplier set it.
Swinton semis and the board in the kitchen cupboard
Many of the post-war semis around Moorside, Swinton Park and towards Clifton were built with the meter and board in the kitchen or a small pantry rather than under the stairs. Kitchen refits since have boxed them into wall units and larder cupboards, sometimes with barely enough room to open the cover. The board inside is usually a 70s or 80s unit with fuses or early MCBs and no RCD.
We fit the new metal consumer unit in the same place where the cupboard allows, so the kitchen stays as it is. A photo of the board with the cupboard door open tells us whether it will fit. If it will not, we say so on the quote rather than on the day, so you can decide in advance how you want to handle it.

Our WhatsApp is run by SB Electrical Group, the team behind Fuse Box Fitters.
No. The two-rate meter belongs to your supplier and we do not change it. We replace the boards on your side of the meter, keep the heater and immersion circuits on the off-peak supply, and test them before we leave.
Yes please, just the cupboard around the board, on the morning of the job. We need clear access to work safely for four to six hours. There is no need to remove the cupboard itself unless your quote has told you the new board will not fit.
Working is not the test. Current wiring regulations expect consumer units in homes to have a non-combustible enclosure, usually metal, and inspectors code older plastic boards, especially under stairs or on escape routes. We replace it with a metal RCBO board and give you the written confirmation for your tenants.
