How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Sale?
£449 for up to 6 circuits, £549 for up to 10, and £695 for 11 or more. Sale Moor terraces and Sale West houses usually land on £449 or £549, while extended Brooklands and Ashton upon Mersey villas are often £695. Earthing, meter tails and bonding are priced from your three photos, so the figure is fixed before we arrive.
How a price is built →Three Sales, three kinds of board
Around Brooklands and up towards Ashton upon Mersey, the big Victorian and Edwardian houses have usually been rewired once and extended since. The consumer unit tends to be a 1980s or 90s board with a switchfuse or two bolted on for a kitchen extension or a garage, and the circuit count has crept up with every project. These are the M33 houses most likely to need the £695 package, and the ones where your photos save the most guesswork.
Sale Moor is different: rows of late Victorian terraces and interwar semis where the fuse box sits under the stairs and is frequently a rewireable Wylex from a 1970s rewire. Sale West, built as overspill housing in the 60s and 70s, tends to carry the original council-fitted split-load board or its first replacement. Neither kind has an RCBO on each circuit, and both are straightforward one-day jobs for us to put right.
Loft conversions, and why the board goes first
A lot of Sale jobs start with a builder. Edwardian semis near the canal and the 1930s houses off Washway Road are prime loft conversion territory, and an electrician adding new circuits to a board with no RCD protection and no spare ways has nowhere sensible to connect them. The loft electrician raises it, the homeowner rings us, and the board is replaced before the new bedroom is wired, with room left for the circuits still to come.
The practical side is easy here. Sale is a short run down the A56 from our base in Trafford Park, so fitting around a builder’s programme is rarely a problem. Power is off for roughly four to six hours, and the Electrical Installation Certificate is in your hands before we leave, ready for the building control file when the loft is signed off.

Yes, and the first days after getting the keys, before the furniture and decorators, are a good time for it. Photos taken at a second viewing or from the survey pictures are usually enough for us to price, and we can pencil the date in for completion week.
Before the new circuits go in, ideally. Your loft electrician then has a modern consumer unit with RCBO protection and spare ways to connect to. We can usually fit around the builder’s programme, and the certificate goes straight into your building control paperwork.
A board that never trips is not the same as a safe one. Split-load boards of that age protect only some circuits with an RCD, and none of them individually. A new board gives every circuit its own RCBO plus surge protection, and we test every circuit on the day.
