How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Ramsbottom?
A two-up two-down stone terrace is usually £449 (up to 6 circuits) and a larger terrace or semi £549 (up to 10). Extended houses and bigger properties towards Holcombe take the £695 package for 11 or more circuits. If the earthing or tails need work, it is priced from your photos before you commit.
How a price is built →Cellars, damp and old stone
Ramsbottom grew around its mills in the nineteenth century, and the terraces along Bolton Street, Bridge Street and the lanes above Market Place were built in local stone with cellars below. When electricity arrived, the supply often came in at cellar level, so that is where the meter and fuse box went. Cellars close to the river can run damp, and a steel switchfuse or rewireable box that has spent decades there shows it: corroded terminals, rusted enclosures, labels long gone.
The job here looks like this. We work in the cellar with our own lighting, replace the old box with a metal consumer unit on the same wall, and check the meter tails, which in older cellars are often rubber-insulated or too short to reach a new board cleanly. Parking on the steeper terraces can be tight, so we sometimes ask about the nearest spot when booking. Ramsbottom is at the northern edge of our area, and jobs are grouped for later the same week.
Renovations, and how Ramsbottom differs from Bury
Plenty of Ramsbottom terraces change hands to buyers with renovation plans, and that is usually when the old fuse box gets looked at properly. A cellar being tanked, a new kitchen or a knocked-through ground floor with new lighting all bring new circuits, and they need a board with spare ways and RCBO protection to connect to. We replace the board as its own job, ideally before the plasterers arrive, so the new circuits have somewhere proper to go.
Compared with Bury town, Ramsbottom has fewer rented terraces and more owner-occupiers, and more of its housing is stone rather than red brick. Holcombe, Holcombe Brook and Summerseat add detached houses and older cottages along the lanes, some with outbuildings on their own cable. Tottington, between here and Bury, has more post-war semis and follows the Bury pattern. Wherever you are in BL0, the prices are the same as in the town.

Use your phone’s torch or flash and take a couple of angles; the photos do not need to be perfect. We mainly need to read the board, see the meter tails where they leave the meter, and find the earth connection. If anything is unclear, we will ask for one more picture before pricing.
Usually, yes. Doing the board early gives any new circuits a proper home, and it means the whole house is tested before walls are plastered and floors go down. The price is fixed from photos, so you can build it into your renovation budget as soon as you have them.
Yes, along with Hawkshaw, Shuttleworth and the lanes up towards Holcombe. They are part of our Ramsbottom round, with no travel charge, and we group jobs so a date usually comes later the same week you send photos.
