How much does a consumer unit replacement cost in Hyde?
Our three fixed prices are £449 up to 6 circuits, £549 up to 10 and £695 for 11 or more. Most Hattersley houses and Newton terraces come in at £449 or £549. Earthing, meter tails and bonding are priced separately from your three photos, so the written quote you get is the price you pay.
How a price is built →Overspill estates and what their boards look like now
Hattersley went up in the 1960s to rehouse families from Manchester, and most of its houses have been refurbished at least once since. That usually means a consumer unit from the 80s or 90s: split-load, one or two RCDs covering several circuits each, often in a plastic enclosure. They work, but an EICR today tends to code them, and one tripping RCD can take out half the house. Replacing with an RCBO per circuit fixes both problems.
Many of these houses are now privately owned or let, and the ones that were bought and extended have picked up circuits along the way: a kitchen extension, an electric shower, a supply to the garage. Godley and the streets between the town and Hattersley follow a similar pattern, with boards that were fine when fitted but have no spare ways left. When the old board is full, the next circuit usually ends up on a separate switchfuse, which is where we come in.
Gee Cross, Newton and the older side of town
Gee Cross sits on the slope under Werneth Low with stone cottages and terraces that predate mains electricity, and Newton and Flowery Field have tight brick terraces built for the mill workforce. Here the board is more likely to be a rewireable Wylex or an old MEM box with a fuse wire card still pinned beside it. The earthing is what we look at hardest, because older supplies sometimes rely on the cable sheath, and the photo near your meter tells us whether an upgrade is needed.
When it is, it costs £80 to £160 and is priced in before you book. The job itself is the same one-visit replacement as anywhere else: power off for four to six hours, every circuit tested dead and live, and the Electrical Installation Certificate in your hand before we go. We make the Part P notification to building control ourselves, so there is nothing for you to file.

Not automatically, but it is the kind of board EICRs most often code now, especially in a plastic enclosure. Nuisance tripping is the other clue: if one fault knocks out half the house, an RCBO on every circuit is the fix. Send the photos and we will give you a straight answer.
Yes. Mottram, Broadbottom and Hollingworth are all SK14 and inside Tameside, so the fixed price applies with no travel charge. Jobs out that way are grouped, so the date is usually later in the same week. Glossop, just over the border, is one we take regularly too.
Yes, that is what the third photo is for. Take it where the main earth cable meets the incoming supply near your meter. If the arrangement needs upgrading, we price it at £80 to £160 in the written quote, so nothing turns up on the day that you were not told about.
