Cheadle Hulme has the grandest stock: Victorian and Edwardian houses near the station, many extended and often on their second or third board. Cheadle village and Gatley are interwar semis in the main, rewired around the 70s with a Wylex or MEM box under the stairs or in the porch that has outlived every kitchen since. Heald Green, towards the airport, is post-war semis and bungalows, typically with a 1980s board and a single RCD at best.
Each group brings its own reason to call. The Cheadle Hulme houses are usually heading for a sale or a big renovation, and the Cheadle and Gatley semis tend to get flagged on a buyer’s survey. Heald Green’s closeness to the airport keeps a steady rental market going, and rentals mean EICRs. Flats with storage heaters, and a second board
Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme have a lot of purpose-built flats from the 60s and 70s, and many were built all-electric. That usually means storage heaters on an off-peak supply, with a second small board or a row of switchfuses for the heating beside the main fuse box, fed from a dual-rate meter. Your photos of the meter and both boards show us how the supply is split, and we price the replacement with that split in mind.
The other practical point is the intake cupboard. In most blocks the meters live in a shared cupboard on the ground floor and the managing agent holds the key. We arrange access with them, and only your flat is switched off on the day. Leaseholders get the Electrical Installation Certificate to pass on to the freeholder or agent if the lease asks for it.
